Colour Laser printers
Tally announces the availability of its colour laser printers to schools within Staffordshire Local Education Authority (LEA). Students and staff at primary, secondary and special schools in the region can now benefit from complete access to colour laser printing.
Tally’s T8004 and T8104 laser printers will carry out a range of end-user functions, from administrative prints, to art/graphic projects and everyday homework assignment prints. By using Tally's colour laser printers - which can be used for both mono and colour printing applications - Staffordshire schools are able to fulfil all their printing requirements. A typical mix of separate mono laser and colour inkjet printers - often seen as a low-cost printer investment - is fraught with high running costs. Depending on volume, the cost of running colour laser printers only can equate to less than half the cost of running separate mono laser and colour inkjet printers in a particular workgroup.
The Tally T8004 and T8104 printers (A4) offer an output of 4-8ppm colour, and 16ppm mono. These can print on various types of stationery and media, and also offer double-sided printing. The T8104 benefits from PostScript inclusion, ideal for users requiring advanced graphic output. Both models are designed to fulfil the everyday colour and mono requirements of school and college workgroups.
Staffordshire schools ICT Support Manager, Nick Boulton, said, “The use of information communications technology is increasing throughout the whole curriculum, and we require printers with output capabilities of up to 10,000 pages per year. With this in mind, usage and cost of ownership are our main considerations, so we want to get away from the costlier option of using both laser and inkjets. Our initial interest in Tally came about through its attractive pricing for the education sector.
He continues, “Following an extensive evaluation procedure, which included installing units in schools to see how they coped with the high demands, Tally printers continued to perform well. In terms of minimising downtime, Tally has given us a high level of reliability.”
“Supplying the correct equipment into schools is a national priority, and a very important part of Government spending,” says Tally’s MD, Robin Edwardes. “We have talked for some time about the importance of placing the correct printer in the correct printing environment, and this issue is paramount in the education sector. It’s about making the right purchasing decisions first time around, and this invariably includes considerations into the ongoing cost of running printers.”
All Staffordshire LEA schools have local area networks and most are looking for a network printing solution. Edwardes continues, “Printer users are now looking at the 2-into-1 option; that is to say merging what mono lasers and ‘cheap to buy but expensive to run’ colour inkjets can do, into one cost-effective solution. This is exactly what we have offered - colour laser printers, which perform at a fraction of the cost of colour inkjets, and offer good cost per copy in mono as well.
Edwardes concludes, “Education is a very important market for IT vendors, and they must understand the cost needs and downtime considerations of customers. It’s important to provide schools with high-quality equipment that will do the job required whilst keeping students IT skills in this area up-to-date.”
