Brake Grocery
T6215 Line Printers & T2155 Dot Matrix Printers
Tally Ltd., the computer printer specialist, in partnership with Datatrade plc, today announced that food distribution company Brake Grocery is using Tally printers as part of its logistics operation. The company, which is owned by the Brake Group, is in the process of rationalising its printers and replacing Genicom products with a range of Tally line and dot matrix machines for dispatch note output at company depots. A total of 44 Tally printers are currently installed.
Delivering to hundreds of UK retailers and catering groups every week requires data precision. Brake Grocery needed reliable technology that could print address and invoice details clearly, often at high volume. Tally's T6215 line printer delivers 1,500 lines per minute output, and is specifically designed for high volume printing in hostile environments, including depots and warehouses. The T2155 dot matrix printer is ideally suited to dispatch notes requiring barcoding, and comes with a built-in cutter device that enables notes to be torn off once printed.
"The majority of our deliveries are made overnight, so we need an 'always on' service from the printers we use," says Ron Wood, Head of Business Systems for Brake Grocery. "When we came to review our printing requirements, we conducted analysis that demonstrated that Tally products were the most reliable which is why we opted for them."
Datatrade drew up a managed service contract that standardised the call-out time to eight hours. The cost savings achieved by this single action enabled Brake to purchase a further nine Tally printers which it has positioned as standbys at its larger depots. All printers had to have an Ethernet connection, high speed, and a 250 million-character ribbon. Under the terms of the new contract Datatrade will provide a single point of call for all printer requirements including consumables and maintenance. As the remaining two-thirds of printers at Brake Grocery outlive their usefulness, they will be replaced by Tally products.
Tally's Managing Director, Robin Edwardes, says, "The nature of Brake Grocery's business can be hectic. Ensuring that the correct goods are delivered to the correct locations is of utmost importance. We are pleased to work with the company as it evaluates the tools for the job, and recognises the importance of the right equipment for its printing applications."
